Kid Crafts: Week three

Between illness and travel, I didn't manage to get pictures together for the last two weeks, but we're back! A few of my favorites from the week...

a lemonade stand- Bug came up with this one on her own and insisted on giving out grape juice at her "lemonade stand" (there are pom poms in the ice cream container, and no cups in sight. I love the idea though!)

inspired by a post from Chasing Cheerios months and months ago, we finally found some bubble wrap to paint.

we did bead lacing with Moo and she really enjoyed it bug begged to make a banana craft, and this is all I could come up with, but it made her happy!

today...

-unpacked from four days in Ogden
-made a glitter craft with Bug

-ran three loads of laundry

-folded two loads...

-made a quilt top start to finish to hang in my mom's quilt shop

-built a bookshelf we got at ikea
-got all the toys out of my front room. hooray!

-made homemade rolls

-played bubbles with my girls (Gymboree bubbles are totally worth the money in my book!)

-dreamed about buying baskets for the bookshelf

new cover!

I finally broke down and made a new cover for my ironing board! It was in really bad shape. I had worn through the padding and was ironing some spots right to the metal.. nice, huh? I found this great tutorial and it was so easy! I bought a cover for a large ironing board (mine is a small one) at the thrift store, and used it as my fabric. It had the padding already so it was a 15 minute project with results that make me giddy, and for just $1!

My mom owns a quilt shop. Do you know how lucky I am? I get to help her do the buying (when the kids allow... sometimes it's not so fun) and pick what fabric lines I want to work with. This one I have been in love with. Moda's pre-cut bundles are so much fun! I made this quilt from a 'honey bun' and a couple yards of white-on-white print. It will fit a baby batting, but is still big enough to use for a couple toddler years. Please ignore the desperate need to iron. My ironing board is in really bad shape. Really bad. So, until I fix it... it remains unironed. I think it will be for my new niece that will be born early summer. That gives me... 4 1/2 months to get around to stippling it. ;)
I am also contemplating a 1" border around the edges... what do you think?

Craft Room

I am lucky enough where we live to have a room dedicated to my crafts. I love it. However, I have never actually done any crafts in there. This would be why...

It didn't start out this bad, it really didn't. I have beads, sewing supplies, scrapbooking stuff, yarn, storage, my mother-in-law's photos, my mother's chandelier... it seemed to turn into a storage space for everybody. So, today I had my hubby bring our elliptical machine in (hooray!) and had to do some rearranging in the room. I really got bad through December when I was storing all my Christmas gifts back there. I promise my whole house does not look like this! With a little help from Moo, I was able to accomplish quite a bit!
I now have space on the floor to move around, and have started tackling organizing all my fabric.
The bummer? I realized I have at least 15 quilting/sewing projects started. I would like to get down to 8... that seems to be a manageable number. I guess that means lots of sewing while hubby is away this week!

Kid Crafts: Week Two

We did more outside play this week than inside, but we still got a few kids crafts in!

Bug loves puzzles, so we worked on this Melissa and Doug set we got from the thrift store. She likes the 'sishies' the best.

I bought this mat at the dollar store, and we did 'school time' together, working on identifying numbers and copying shapes and colors.
We did some alphabet work with matching the letters - thanks to Grandma Warner for a great Christmas gift!Bug's favorite was matching calendar pictures. I got a mini calendar from the dollar section at Target for half price, and had her match the pictures with the mini ones from the back of the calendar. Once she got the idea of the game, it was really easy. We mixed the pictures up and did this game four times in one night! We got the idea for this one from Chasing Cheerios. I love that blog!
